Dean was one of the great loves of my life, and who will always be that. Life with Dean was having "midnight breakfast" with Oscar Wilde, or partying in full Art Deco style. Crazy picnics in front of the V&A Theater at Dickens Fair and founding "St. Manana's Guilde, our device crossed fingers and a broken promise." Picking up discarded cartoons that seemed to drift like snow wherever he walked. My father regaling us with tales of the Studios in the 1930's-60's, and Dean filing notes on set designs. Him showing off hats decorated with festoons of dead hummingbirds in the archives of Cal Arts. Hanging out in the back of the costume shop of Great American Melodrama while he fulfilled fantasy costumes for Cinderella's stepsisters in full fantasy Georgian "big hair/hats." Having always been "an honorary gay man" I was the first to suggest perhaps he might want to explore other aspects of his being, and was pleased to find it suited him. He will always be a part of my soul, we shall meet again in whatever Elysium grants us the privilege.
