Alice Tykac

May 25, 1932 — May 19, 2016

Alice Beverly Tykac
May 25, 1932 to May 19, 2016

Alice passed away at home early Thursday Morning, May 19th, 2016. She was in control of her life throughout her illness, doing her meditation and some yoga, but succumbed to AML just shy of her 84th birthday.
Alice Kerr was born in Santa Ana California, May 25th, 1932 to Rose Lee Kerr (Johnson) and Clarence Heiman Kerr. She grew up in Orange County and bounced around from Santa Ana to Silverado Canyon then went to high school in Corona and Oceanside, CA. Alice attended SJSU in 1951 where she met her first husband Richard Beverly (Deceased).
Alice was a RN with degrees from Pierce CC and CSUN. She worked as a surgical scrub nurse at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, head nurse at Northridge Hospital Psychiatric unit and was a patient liaison for Olive View-UCLA. Alice also was a certified Yoga instructor and volunteered after retirement.
Alice married Jan Tykac her “soul mate” in 1987 and found 29 years of happiness. She had many longtime personal and professional friends where great conversation, gourmet meals and “fun trips” were shared. Alice was always the optimist, quick with a loving smile and an encouraging word. Her idea of fun was a good book and a beach. Alice also loved snorkeling in Bora Bora, Tahiti where she and Jan travelled to many times.
Alice leaves behind her husband Jan Tykac, daughter Erin Beverly, sons John and Krag Beverly , daughter in-laws Susan Barbee and Shu Yang, son in-law Mark Kandel and grandchildren Ellen Tuck (Beverly), Daniel Beverly, Rosie Beverly, Nicholas Jay , and brother Daniel Kerr.
A celebration of life will be planned later in the summer, time and location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, Alice would prefer you treat yourself to a nice bottle of wine, cheers!
Special thanks to Joie, Alicia, Kaiser Hospice, Health Care Support and Angeleno Mortuary for their professional and compassionate support.
Condolences can be posted on www.angelenomortuary.com or sent to her personal email. We miss her caring smile, dignity and strength already.
