Ernestene DeLois Clemmons was born June 4, 1936 Brawley, California. She was the second of four children welcomed into the home of Ernest and Ethel Janes. She enjoyed a happy childhood filled with simple pleasures found in the life on a ranch. At a young age, Ernestene gave her heart and life to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and followed him faithfully for over 75 years.
After graduating high school, Ernestene had a desire to serve God as a nurse. Despite a serious car accident that occurred during her final year of nurse’s training she graduated with her class and passed the California State Board Exam for her Registered Nurse’s license. She then chose to continue her education at the Master’s College (formerly known as Los Angeles Baptist College). While there, Ernestene met the love of her life, Amos, and they married in 1960. A few years later, they welcomed two daughters, Jean and Joy, into their family.
In addition to enjoying life as a mom, Ernestene served alongside her husband in support of his career as a pastor and military chaplain, while still pursing her 46 year career in nursing. She fully embraced her life in retirement, actively participating in the life of her family. She also enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including quilting, reading, and finding ways to make people laugh. Her retirement years also brought two challenging battles with cancer. She faced them with a determined smile, an optimistic mindset, and a commitment to live each moment with gratitude. After successfully completing treatment, she further relished each day, and used any excuse possible to celebrate the extra time she had been given by entertaining dinner guests or hosting a tea party.
Although the last several years brought new health challenges that imposed difficult physical limitations, Ernestene still found the greatest joy in times spent with those she loved. Her devoted family and faith were the cornerstones of her life, and she spent her final days deeply comforted by both. She peacefully entered heaven on the morning of September 17, 2022, at the age of 86. She is survived by her beloved husband Amos, daughter Jean Beard, daughter Joy Whipple, their husbands John Beard and John Whipple, Grandchildren Cody Driver, Laura Polsgrove, Daniel Whipple, Samuel Whipple, Carly Beard, Jack Beard, great grandchildren Hudson Driver, Kinley Polsgrove, Declan Polsgrove and Klara Whipple and sister Phyllis Meisner.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to honor her life on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Del Prado Clubhouse, 24360 La Glorita Circle, Santa Clarita, CA 91321.
