Linda went to be with our Lord on Friday morning, July 29, 2016
Linda passed away peacefully at her home in Castaic with her husband, daughter, sister and beloved “Jack” by her side. Her long struggle and suffering with cancer is over as she is now at Eternal Rest and Peace with the Lord Jesus Christ. Linda was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and great aunt. She was preceded in death by her daughter Tina, her sons David and Mathew, her sister Cynthia as well as her father Gilbert and her mother Leola.
Linda was born and raised in Van Nuys, CA the oldest of five children. She graduated from Birmingham High School and like her mother, went on to pursue a career in Nursing. She graduated from the nursing program as a Registered Nurse and spent the next 25 years in the nursing profession. During her illustrious career, she worked in many different facilities and specialties. Most notably; Holy Cross Hospital Pediatrics, Sherman Oaks/Grossman Burn Center, Aspen Surgery Center, Facey Medical Group as a Nursing Supervisor as well as Northridge MS Center. Linda was the Night Charge Nurse at Sherman Oaks / Grossman Burn Center where she met her husband Alan while he was coordinating a blood drive for a severely burned Fire Fighter. During her five year nursing tenure at the Burn Center, she worked with Dr. Richard Grossman on many things including the development of wound care monitoring, healing protocols and education. While working with Dr. David Brandes, she assisted him in establishing the Northridge Multiple Sclerosis Center. She would then travel the country with Dr. Brandes to provide education and training in the management of Multiple Sclerosis.
Linda was forced to retire from active nursing in 2003 due to her affliction with Acute Myelocytic Leukemia (AML). Linda sought treatment for leukemia from the City of Hope and she was a 13 year, post transplant survivor.
She was very spiritual and became an ordained minister in the Living Spirit Ministry. “Reverend Linda A. Fortune” performed many services which included; marriage ceremony for her brother and sister-in-law and most recently, performed the marriage ceremony for her niece and nephew. She also performed several funeral services for family, friends as well as those who did not have a regular pastor to call on.
She was very involved in the Women’s Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and ultimately, became a group leader for two years. She also held women’s Bible Study groups in her home on a weekly basis. Her friendship and spiritual guidance were warmly received and touched everyone she met.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 25 years Alan, Daughter Sara, Sisters Patricia and Lisa as well as her Brother Gilbert.
May She Rest in Eternal Peace.
